Well my birth name is Thomas R. Bolin Jr. Named, (obviously, hince the Jr.) for my father. Traditionaly I've gone by Rick. My parents started this. You see, they had the forthought to see that having two Toms, Thomases or Tommys in the house would be confusing. So I was to go by my middle name. Richard. Only I had the fortune to be born during the
Nixon administration, and there was no way my father was going to let his first born and only be called Richard, Rich, or God forbid, Dick. Thus, I am Rick.
I'm 37, a graphic designer by trade, and am currently earning a living as Director of Marketing at SSI Technologies. I now live in Oklahoma City, that is of course in the fine state of Oklahoma; smack dab in the middle of the United States of America. I'm happily married to Katie, an LPN for a homehealth network. We've been married sine the spring of 2000 and live in a Tutor Revival home built in 1939. As yet, no kids. Yet...
So you may be wondering "What's this 'rickus' business anyway?"
Good question! Hmm... How to explain?
Well, with the assistance of Peabody's boy Shirman, we'll set the Wayback Machine to 1991. Back to the first Pesident Bush's administration. My good friend Jeffrey T. McBride procalamed that he was going to begin calling me "Rickus Theophilous," or Rick the God Lover. Which was a bit of a joke since at the time I was a pofessed athiest.
We shared an appartment in Stillwater, Oklahoma where we attended classes at OSU and would often have lengthy conversations about life the universe and everything. These conversations would more often than not meander their way to (dant dant dant daaa...) God. At which point Jeff (a life long Christian) would put forth all 1,459 of his well reasoned and mathmaticly correct Cartesian proofs for why and how God exists. To which I could counter "Yea... But did you ever stop to think that God spelled backward is dog?" I won't go on about this, but suffice it to say that Jeff is a man of infinate patience!
The sir name Rickus.
I have this from good authority (Ade Rickus [how cool a name is that?!!]) that the surname Rickus "has been traced a couple of times by separate members of the" Rickus "family. The more unbelievable one was traced to Austria, however as there aren't actually ANY people with the surname there, I tend to disbelieve that one. The second is an alteration of an anglo saxon name from southern England, this was traced by a writer from Scotland with the same surname. I've spoken to her a couple of times and the original surname she thinks its derived from is rickhuss, a slightly more popular name in the UK."
Ade mentioned another "Rickus" in his email to me. Laura Rickus is a model/photographer from Massachusetts whos work you can see at: www.laurarickus.com/.
